Looking for a position as Competent Crew.
Hi - I'm interested in finding a position as Competent Crew. I have quite considerable sailing experience racing small sail boats, some yachting, and professionally as a watchkeeper / Master of large sailing ships, but that was several years ago. At that time, I navigated using paper charts. In 2022 I sailed for 3 weeks aboard a 40 ' monohull Brisbane to Cairns and was initiated into E charts. So easy! After that trip I was one of three crew, cruising and delivering a 15m cat from Tahiti to NZ, and shortly after that I assisted in delivery of a 58ft Leopard cat from Vanuatu to Cairns. In Aug 23 I sailed Mackay - Townsville aboard a 50 foot mono. This was meant to be a trip further north but I left early, in Townsville (as did the other crewman) owing to the skipper's disregard for safety and hygiene. You can see his review of me to draw your own conclusion.). In Nov 23 I crewed aboard a Beneteau 461 for 3 weeks Cairns/Lizard Is/Flinders Group/ Cairns inside the Barrier Reef. I am really enjoying what Crewbay has to offer. I am a fit chap in his early 60’s. I am considering buying my own yacht or catamaran but first seek to sail with others in different types of boats before I outlay the capital. I am retired and quite flexible with time. My wife is not interested in sailing, diving or fishing but supports my desire for ocean adventures, so long as trips are not too long, say a few weeks. I don’t get seasick. I can cook and I am tidy aboard ship. I don’t smoke and enjoy an ale (G&T or Bundy) in harbour or at anchor. As old salt I believe I can be of value and fit in with all ages for good times. I am based on the east coast of Australia (NSW south coast) and of course am happy to fly where necessary to join a yacht, in particular warm places thereabouts. Thanks.

Excellent crew.
Niel sailed with me for over 3 weeks from Cairns, lizard Island, the Flinders island and back to Cairns. He is excellent on the boat, has good experience sailing as well as a keen fisherman. He is cool in testing conditions and very keen to be involved. Neil was great company, has a few good stories with a few laughs. I highly recommend Neil to anyone and I'd have him back on my boat anytime.
