Looking for mile building opportunities in the Mediterranean/Canary Islands in Winter 2024
I'm looking for possibilities to build miles in the Mediterranean/Canary Islands in Winter 2024. I am eager to learn about keeping watch, trimming, tidal influences, different means of navigation, weather reading, reading the stars, boat maintenance, many other aspects of sailing, photography, languages and cultures. Things I value are openness, honesty, clear communication, room for reasoning when conditions allow it and emotional check-ins if possible. No-go's for me are racism, sexism and drugs.
My friends described me as precise, considerate, caring, thoughtful, reflective, honest, open, sociable, friendly and self contained. Back home I work as a baker and as a cook. I like to cook, to garden, to build furniture with waste wood and to go climbing. I hitchhiked all over Europe and a bit of southeast Asia. These experiences enriched my life a great lot. Getting along with different personalities is something I count as part of my skill set.
My mental and physical health are in good shape and I don't take medicines or drugs other than a morning coffee and an occasional alcoholic beverage. My diet is mainly, but not restricted to, vegetarian and I'm willing to adjust if nescessary. I prefer a non-drinking policy aboard during sailing and wouldn't mind a few beers before departure and a can/bottle of something upon arrival. My Dutch passport says that I'm 35 years old but I like to see our real age as a combination of experiences made in life.
1 week offshore sailing
Sander joined us for a 1 week offshore trip from Holland to North Sweden. Communication before the trip was easy. We went the direct route offshore from Makkum to Strömstad sailing (and motoring) for 4 days and 4 nights doing nearly 500 miles nonstop . Sander did a good job doing night watches, looking out for traffic separation schemes and fishing vessels and all other tasks keeping the boat running. He also cooked some nice meals and helped keeping the boat clean. Sander was also not getting bored discussing the perfect sail trim for each condition with me and interested in picking up more knowledge. On top of that he was also very nice company who got along well with everybody on board. I hope we meet on the water some day again!
