Sailing the Pacific
Hi!
I'm Johanna (37) from Germany looking for ideas to sail the Pacific this season. I would like to see as many places as possible and deepen my sailing skills! Currently in Vanuatu, could start sailing from here or nearby islands, from Australia (past Lord Howe Island) or from French Polynesia onwards. I am an experienced crew, sailor and traveler and would also be interested in a boat or house sitting close to the water (to wait the end of cyclone season), deliveries (to FP for example) and learn more about mechanics, engine and other boat repairs and maintenance. I would like to learn more about the responsibilities, duties and good seamanship of being a captain. I'm fun to be around, sporty and like profound conversations :)
I'm also interested to volunteer in a medical project on a Pacific island if anyone could recommend a contact? I speak fluent French, English, German and some Spanish.
It would be amazing if a boat would depart directly from Australia past Lord Howe Island or Vanuatu and visit more Pacific islands upwind. I understand that this is more rare and less comfortable, so also happy to fly to FP and go from there. Other dream destination would be the Gambiers and all the gems and less touristy more remote beautiful places the Pacific has to offer. Also open to sail to Micronesia. I prefer remote anchorages to busy marinas, though I do enjoy them as well. A boat with water sport equipment and keen hikers and people who like to explore the islands and waters would be ideal. Always interested in learning. Professional and recreational. Can be monohull or catamaran.
I am happy about suggestions and hear about your travel plans! If you are looking for crew or have some space, please let me know! I am a competent crew and can help out.
My dream is to go polar sailing, I would love to sail to Antarctica, see icebergs, experience the cold and extreme, deepen my skills. I would love to go to Alaska, North West Passage!, Groenland, Patagonia, Norway.
One day Africa, Japan..
I am traveling around the world, exploring and seeking fresh input and new adventures!
I've been sailing on Ponants and 4,70m boats on mountain lakes with the university and friends back home and hold a license for lake sailing. For one season 2018/19, I have been sailing up and down the Caribbeans between Guadeloupe and Grenada and then from Martinique to Panama and on to Ecuador and the Galapagos. In summer 2020, I've been crossing the North Sea from the Netherlands to the Faeroese Islands and back down to Scotland. I have crewed for some harbour regattas in Sydney and leisure sailed around there. I worked some years as a medical doctor and am interested in humanitarian and global health issues. I have worked in emergencies and remote, so I might get in very handy for medical stuff and life support, especially on longer crossings. I'm interested in joining expeditions, research projects and nature/ocean protection boats. I would also like to try educational sailing with kids/teenagers and go on a tall ship!
I am happy to help onboard and am interested especially in the sailing of course! I want to deepen my sailing skills and become a competent captain myself one day and who knows, combine my passions and get my own boat to sail the world! Thus, I would like to learn and am very grateful for all you can teach me and am looking for valuable input to improve my sailing, engineer and maintenance skills, fixing all kind of boat problems, navigation, passage planning, weather forecast, crew organization and leadership, captain's duties and responsibilities, life experience and human kindness! :) I usually work my stay or passage, can pay my own food and costs I create or expect a pay, depending on the position and the work I do. For shared costs, I expect a nice trip or holiday among friends, shared decision-making where allowed and fair distribution of duties. Vegetarian for 25 years and environment conscious. Big Ocean lover! Interested in all kind of water and wind sports and activities, also hiking high mountains or going on expeditions! I'd like to try polar waters at some point. Looking for great sailing, happy captain and crew and generally a good time exploring amazing places on a nice interesting boat with nice friendly people. Responsible, safe, happy and easy going.
I am also interested in paid work, charters and deliveries.
No dating!
Happy to hear from you!
Thank you and fair winds!
Johanna
