Competent Crew looking for Offshore Miles
* As of Jan 2025, I have returned to full-time study for the next 6-12 months - based in Sydney however so would love the opportunity to get out on the weekends! *
Hi,
I'm 35 y/o Aussie recently just moved back to Oz after 5 years working as a Paramedic in London.
In terms of my sailing experience - I have logged a few sea miles, having crewed a 43ft Cutter from NZ to Fiji and then across to New Caledonia back in 2016 - an experience I absolutely loved.
In 2019 I spent some months as crew for a lovely American couple on their HR53. We had planned a long off-shore passage to Tahiti however, due to some unforeseen boat issues we ended up staying in NZ and doing a bit of coastal cruising.
Aside from these larger time commitments, I have acted as crew in casual weekend two-man dinghy races on Sydney harbour and spent a week on a cutter-rigged ketch day-sailing and and coastal cruising in Cornwall, UK.
I hold Competent Crew, Day Skipper and Coastal Navigation qualifications, however I think it's important to highlight that my sailing over the last few years has been sporadic with huge breaks between trips and it may take me a little time to get up to speed again. That said I'm a keen learner and appreciate any opportunity to learn/gain experience. I would be very open to a familiarisation sail before committing to any longer passages. It's always nice to spend a few days together to make sure we're a good fit before heading offshore.
I'm seeking (and would be grateful for) any opportunity to crew, build miles and learn more about sailing.
In particular I would love to act as crew on any longer crossings in order to increase my experience in off-shore sailing as this was an experience I loved in the Pacific.
I am happy to travel abroad to meet a vessel and don't mind where we go or how slow/fast the pace is. I am also prepared to contribute to running costs etc.
I feel I am a safety-orientated capable and practical person and I'm not afraid of hard work or getting my hands dirty etc.
I take direction easily, have a relaxed attitude and love to learn new skills - I tend to enjoy the 'special' challenges that sailing (especially off-shore) can create. I don't smoke or do any drugs but will enjoy a cold beer at anchor.
I come with my own off-shore kit (foulies, spinlock PFD, boat shoes and boots) would love to hear from anyone that thinks they may have a space for me on board.
Cheers!
- Lauren

Competent in all general aspects of boat handling and sail handling. I would be happy to have her onboard as part of my team anytime if she can put up with me again!!
