I've been an RYA Skipper with over 35 years experience with sail and motor yachts, in the areas of UK, Spain, Italy, Sicily, Slovenia, Croatia, Greece and Turkey...
In the 70s I spent 14 years in the HM Forces (Military Intelligence), with many tours to Northern Ireland. Then later in the 90s as a specialist Army reservist, I was deployed in the Falklands, Bosnia and Iraq on short tours. I was also qualified as a Combat Medic/Para Medic and 1st Aid Instructor... In the 90s as a civilian, I was Operations Director with a UK Travel company providing winter sports and summer yacht charter holidays. The company was sold later in the mid 90s.
From 1999 to 2010 I was Owner/Skipper of a Yacht Charter company with a 24 metre, 45 ton motor yacht based in Slovenia for 10 years, providing 7 and 14 days Skippered charters around the Croatian islands each year from May to September, providing breakfasts and grilled lunch each day. Sold my yacht in 2010.
From 2010 to present day, in the summer months I have been a contract skipper and also regularly skippered a variety of sailing yachts, catamarans, and motor yachts on deliveries internationally from/to UK, Latvia, Spain, France, Italy, Sicily, Malta, Slovenia, Croatia, Greece, Cyprus and Turkey. In the summer of 2013, I worked as Base Manager/mechanic/Safety Officer near Athens for an Anglo/Greek yacht charter company, responsible for the serviceability of 30 sailing yachts and 4 motor yachts. In 2016, I was Skipper on a 27 metre, 85 ton private motor yacht, cruising the western Greek islands with the UK owners family and friends for two months. In the summer 2017, I was Skipper on a 17 metre, 27 ton private motor yacht, cruising the central Greek islands for 2 months, plus some delivery work before and after. The summer of 2018, I delivered various motor yachts and sailing yachts around Croatia, Slovenia, Spain and UK... In 2019, I was skipper on an 18m sailing yacht in Cyprus for 8 weeks June and July, plus two deliveries around Italy and Croatia later in August and September.
Summer of 2020, I delivered a 20m sailing yacht from Sicily around south Italy to Croatia for the American owner. Also, a motor yacht from Greece to Slovenia.
In March 2021, I delivered an 18m Trawler motor yacht in Latvia for 3 weeks. Later the same year I was skipper on a disastrous delivery of a new, out of the factory, 19m sailing catamaran from Nice around Italy to Croatia for 10 days but had to finish that early, after experiencing many disastrous, constant problems with the yacht's faulty/broken and collapsing substandard rig. The yacht was unseaworthy and dangerous and had to stay in Rome area a few weeks for repairs, but the owner in his frustration felt it appropriate to blame me for the yacht's failures.
Summer of 2022, I was skipper on a private 15m sailing catamaran cruising the Greek islands for 6 weeks, then later I was skipper on a private 22m sailing yacht for 8 weeks cruising Turkey.
In the winter months, I work periodically with the Austrian ski school as an instructor/ski teacher.
I would be interested in a Skipper position, 1st Mate, Navigator, Maritime Security or perhaps as a Charter Base Operations/Management positions.
In total, over the last 38 years involved in boating, I have spent most of that time as Skipper, plus periods as Navigator and 1st Mate on various power and sailing yachts up to 70 metres. If required, I can also provide a crew/hostess.

Whilst Stan is a nice man, the reality is he is not comfortable sailing off the coastline, anchoring overnight and night passages. Things that we specifically advised we needed to do - as we had limited time to get to our destination and wanted to gain hands on experience on our new boat. We engaged him to assist us with passage on our new from Saint Raphael France to Split Croatia. It was apparent that he is only comfortable cruising with the engines on and staying in marinas overnight. He is not physically fit and able to attend to the demands of sailing or assist on board with any tasks. We could not recommend him for anything other than costal shore cruising in a motorboat and staying in marinas. We felt uncomfortable in his ability for our purposes and we terminated his services in Rome and replaced him with another Skipper.
