Looking for adventure!
After many years of dreaming about life on a sailboat I am ready to do it. My husband is quite handy, and I am too. We built our own home in Alaska from scratch with hard work, persistence, and determination. We are avid gardeners and enjoy all Alaska has to offer (hiking, hunting, fishing, and gathering berries and edible mushrooms.) We love the ocean, surfing, snorkeling, fishing, and good company. We are quite family friendly and drink only on occasion (neither of us smoke) or curse (unless we really smash a finger hard). We enjoy good food and I like to cook and bake. I emphasize vegetables and fruit and prefer healthy fare. Though I know how to make a mean cheesecake if that suits your fancy. I studied Emergency medicine and was a certified EMT (I have since let my card expire.) We are flexible and know how to get by and simply enjoy life without needing constant entertainment. I have tutored students in a variety of subjects and I used to be a substitute teacher. Recently I have been working as an occupational therapist in the hospital. My husband is a welder and can fix basically anything. He is also a good mechanic, fisherman and good at climbing coconut trees. We are looking to gain some experience and friends. We have crewed on a boat during a sailing regatta in Homer, Alaska and we have been on a variety of smaller boats ( I grew up water skiing and wake boarding). Recently (April 2022) we spent 2 weeks doing a shakedown on a 39' C&C in St. Augustine, Florida and did a number of day sailing trips North and South. We also spent 3 weeks sailing in Mexico and crossed the Sea of Cortez (243 nm from La Paz to Mazatlan). We have our own 14 foot inflatable and are experienced dingy boaters. We look forward to meeting you and sharing stories of travel adventures. We spent 3 months riding bicycles through Europe and have some fun tales to tell. Cheers!
5 stars for Chelsea and Mark. They are excellent crew.
5 stars for Chelsea and Mark. They are excellent crew. I enjoyed having Chelsea and Mark join my boat as crew for 3 weeks of sailing in Mexico in January 2023. I hope we get to sail together again sometime in the future. Chelsea and Mark Joined my boat in Puerto Escondido on the Sea of Cortez of Baja Mexico for 3 weeks of sailing. We sailed together for more than 400 nautical miles with a few stops in remote anchorages in the Sea of Cortez and a 245 nautical mile passage from La Paz to Mazatlán. We completed the passage across the Sea of Cortez in 36 hours in Beaufort Force 6 conditions. Chelsea and Mark are enthusiastic quick learners with unshakable positive attitudes and great sense humor. Chelsea is an excellent cook and jumps right in on provisioning and everything in the galley to keep the crew happily fed. They are also good problem solvers and work smartly and well together as a team when needed for sailing work. They joined my boat with good knowledge of basic sailing. By the end of our time together they had mastered most everything involved in sailing my Hylas 44. I think they are very competent crew.
