John. Looking for sailing adventures.
Willing to consider any crewing or skippering opportunities. I started sailing when I was a teenager and gradually built up my boating skills over the years. I am currently the proud owner of two sailing dinghies, a Laser and a Dart 18 catamaran. I sail them twice a week throughout the year. I crew on friends' sailing yachts on most of the other afternoons. When there is no wind I get my dose of daily exercise on an SUP, or catch up on postponed domestic chores. During the racing season, May-October, I crew on yachts racing in the Cyprus offshore championship series, primarily in the role of the helmsman or mainsail trimmer. I regularly sail at night and I am comfortable on a night watch. I love sailing, cruising and the life by the sea and I devote most of my free time indulging in it.
Every summer since 2013 I have been chartering 32-40 ft yachts in Greece for family vacations. So far we have cruised on multiple occasions the Saronic, the Ionian, the Dodecanese, the Northern Cyclades and the Sporades. I have cruised or raced from Cyprus to Greece, Israel and Lebanon. Participated in the Aegean Regatta in 2017, 2021, 2022 and 2024 on a 1986 Elan 31, having participated in its preparation and delivery from/ to Cyprus to the race venues in the eastern Greek islands. In January 2020 I cruised the Canary Islands for a week, together with seven other sailing friends, on a chartered Dufour 512.
In September 2021 I met BridgePlayer through Crewbay and helped him sail his Jeanneau SO49 double-handed from Crete to Rhodes. In May 2022 I sailed for a few days with Zrubavel on his Trintella 57A around Leros and repeated for a week from Patmos to Samos in April 2023. In late September 2022 I sailed double handed with Tonto from Limnos to Limni, Evia, on his Catalac 9 catamaran. In 2023 I have sailed for a week in May in the Dodecanese and in June in the Ionian with Kadima, an Astrea 42 Catamaran, and for a week in July with Ticu5312, a Bavaria 36, in north-western Ireland. In May 2024 I sailed from Kalamata to Malta on Kadima and in July 2024 cruised the French Atlantic coast in the Nantes region for a week on Ticu5312. I aspire to explore more such opportunities.
I hold university degrees in Management, Mechanical and Industrial Engineering. I am a handy person with self-sufficient mechanical and electrical skills but I much prefer sailing rather than fixing boats. Regardless, I will contribute to any repairs or sorting out any problems on your boat while I sail with you.
I am easy going, and comfortable being social or by myself. I find few things more worthwhile doing than sailing, cruising or messing around in boats, meeting fellow sailors or visiting new places. The most valuable assets I control are my time and attention, and I am prepared to share these, if you want me to.
John Cy, a real sailor
John joined me in Ireland to accompany me on a few legs of my circumnavigation of Ireland. John is a joyful, easy going and easy to get on with sailor. When it comes to sailing he is very serious and most importantly he is highly competent in sail trimming and rig tuning. he helped me better understand and get the most out of my boat. Unfortunately he could only stay a few days. I highly recommend John and look forward to sailing with him again.
