Looking for a mile building, delivery crew, friendship or boat sitter position
5,000+ NM offshore/coastal experience (N. & S. Europe, UK, Caribbean, US east and west coast) w/ RYA certs. Friendly, easy going, safety-minded married woman looking to make new platonic friends and gain further experience through great sailing collaborations. Especially interested in longer trips (several weeks to several months), and sailing with other women and women skippers. Has own gear and equipment (offshore rated PFD, personal PLB, AIS, InReach, etc).
Experience: This past spring I helped friends make the 4751 mile passage from Colon, Panama to Hiva Oa, French Polynesia, and then on to the Tuamotus and Tahiti on their FP Tanna 47 catamaran as part of a total crew of 5. The crossing took us 32 days, with a further two weeks sailing through French Polynesia with a reduced crew of 3. I've trained on J80s for fleet and match racing out of Finnish-Swedish sailing club Nyländska Jaktklubben (NJK) in Helsinki for the past two seasons, and I am about to take my third and final exam to pass my RYA Coastal Skipper theory. I'd like to continuing on to get my Yachtmaster Ocean, and potentially commercial endorsements.
I sailed dinghies when I was very young, and have spent time crewing on medium sized boats (40 to 53 foot cruisers and racers), mostly in San Francisco Bay where I mentored and helped teach underprivileged and at-risk youth to sail.
Crewed on the winning boat (line honors) for the 2 day offshore Round Grenada Regatta in 2023. Lived aboard as a boat sitter for 5 weeks in St. George's, Grenada.
Most recently, I've been assisting Finnish Golden Globe / Ocean Globe / Whitbread / [insert almost any major ocean sailing race here] veteran Tapio Lehtinen with crewing and maintenance on his Nautor Swan 55 / GGR '24 finisher, Galiana.
Crewed for 5 days on a Albin Express in the Finnish archipelago in summer '24.
I've trained in passage planning, navigation (both paper and electronic charts), boat safety equipment, VHF radio, and MOB. I have sailed in the Baltic Sea and Finnish Archipelago, the Mediterranean (Turkey and Sardinia), New England, California and the Washington coast, and have done nighttime sails (used radar and other navigational aids), and week-long coastal hopping trips. I have been Red Cross certified for Adult First Aid/CPR/AED but my certification recently lapsed. I will be completing the RYA First Aid at Sea course in Southampton, UK in April '25.
I lived on and looked after a 43' Waquez Amphritite Ketch for 5 weeks in Grenada in the summer of 2023 while the owners were in Europe, and took good care of their boat as well as their cat.
