Looking to crew, learn the ropes and meet new people!
Hello!
My name's Jonathan and I want to spend a few weeks this summer sailing. By May, I'll have finished college and want an adventure. I have sailed dinghies for many years, and have spent a week on a tallship a few years ago - one of the best weeks of my life. I have a RYA competent crew certificate. I am more than willing to learn, not from books but by doing the real thing out on the water, come what may.
I study Latin and English literature, can speak some French, and am fascinated by history, geography and nature. I love reading, swimming (bad luck?!), debating, cycling, playing cards, and generally socialising/meeting new people. I'm bored by city life and after the summer I'd love to try to sail around the world (as ridiculous as that may sound!). You're only young once etc. I'm a bit of a dreamer - I was never interested in racing dinghies, but much preferred sailing gently at my own pace, staring at the sky, as the others tore around the harbour.
For the first few weeks of the summer (around May), I'd like to crew on a boat around the Mediterranean, learning the ropes and getting stuck in, preferably on a boat with other crew members. Some time ashore to look at ruins etc would be enjoyable. After the summer, who knows, if I haven't by then sunk perhaps a more exciting global adventure awaits!
