Experienced deckhand couple looking to embark for a transatlantic from Europe or Canaries
Hello sailors !
My girlfriend and I are interested in finding a position as a deckhands to sail from Europe to south-America or Caribbean early 2025 for a meaningful project. We are both experienced deckhands on cruising sailboats, see below for details.
What is our sailing experience ?
We are both experienced deckhand with the following skills :
* Be an experienced deckhand and actively participate in the running of the boat: reactivity, relevance of actions, knowledge and execution of essential maneuvers at all stations.
* Not to provoke risky situations: anticipate and manage risks in maneuvers.
* Know how to position the boat and have a good knowledge of maritime context (buoyage, map reading, documentation, etc.).
* Carry out night watches
We both acquired those skills from sailing camps and small crossings in the mediterranean (Empuriabrava -> Marseille ; Calvi -> Toulon). On my side, I have already taken part in a 6,500km-long crossing from Auckland, NZ to Darwin, Australia (3,600 nautical miles) on a 15m sailboat. It was a 22 days crossing with 4 man onboard. So I have a serious experience.
Who are we?
We are 2 engineers and long-standing members of the NGO Climate Fresk that does climate education around the world, we have been devoting our volunteer and professional energies to raising awareness and educating citizens, with the aim of contributing to the changes needed to build a low-carbon society.
We work with citizens, students and but also for executives in the public and private sectors.
In addition, we are smily people, always down for a laugh and chat, and of good will for all tasks on board (washing, cooking, etc.)
What will we be doing in Brazil?
Our final destination is Brazil. COP30 will be held in Brazil in November 2025. It's been 10 years since South America hosted a COP. So this is an opportunity to raise the topic of the climate issue on the continent. Ideally, we'd like to travel to Brazil in early 2025 to accelerate the deployment of the Climate Fresk in Brazil in the few months leading up to the COP, and to represent the association at the COP itself.
