1x fulltime permanent Deck / Stew (50/50) role
Expectations
Your role will be the most diverse position onboard and will include but not be limited to:
- Exterior and Interior cleaning, upkeep and maintenance
- Silver Service and bartending
- Watchkeeping and Sail Trimming
- Tender operation
- assisting in all other departments (from washing dishes to assisting in engine room)
- working long and irregular shifts to be expected. Crew typically accumulate 1-2 days off per week, which we fit into the schedule when most appropriate, this is separate from accrued paid leave.
Vessel Itinerary & Background:
Private Yacht with Canadian family on Oyster 885 participating in the Oyster World Rally needs permanent 4th crew for final leg from Cape Town, South Africa to Falmouth, Antigua via Namibia, St Helena, Brazil (Salvador and Fernando de Noronha) and Grenada. Start date 5th January.
Upon arrival the vessel will do approximately 4 split up weeks of Private Charter with the family and their friends throughout the Lesser Antilles / Virgins before heading to the Mediterranean via Bermuda & Azores. Then the plan is to explore and do similar private charters in the Med for the remainder of the summer prior to hauling out for a winter refit program.
Experience and skills
Crew are expected to have Delivery experience on vessels over 50' / 15m.
An Ocean crossing and watchkeeping experience preferred as the role will require sole watch and sail trimming during ocean transits.
Good understanding of using Chart plotters, Radar and wind instruments, VHF etc required.
Service industry experience is preferred especially Charter exp.
Candidates without food allergies or limited food preferences are preferred.
Having the ability to learn and grow during your employment until you can self manage your own department is expected.
Engineering / electrical / experience or competence is bonus
Hydraulic rigging operation experience a bonus
