Deckhand - Permanent - General (Caribbean)
We are an American family of 4 (B13, G12) living full-time on board our Sunreef 74 catamaran currently in Panama/Colombia and planning to go through the Panama Canal in Dec or Jan this year. My husband, the captain, was in the US Merchant Marine and is licensed as a Third Mate Unlimited; he is a lifetime sailor and is confident handling this boat. I have my 100 ton masters license and we are both active operators of the boat. We are seeking someone with sailing experience to help with all deckhand jobs (lines, cleaning, tender driving, sailing, standing watches, etc). While the duties will be primarily focused on sailing and boat operations, we are looking for someone who wishes to participate as part of a family, contribute to the happy and safe running of the vessel and generally enjoys being at sea. For this position, work hours will be scheduled based on sailing and maintenance needs with scheduled time off. Duties (as per schedule): -Assist with voyage planning, sailing, and sailing checklists, anchoring, anchor watch, mooring, docking, etc. -Boat maintenance and cleaning, extra plus for engineering knowledge, ability to change engine/generator oil and perform basic maintenance/diagnose problems on boat systems -Willingness to teach/share knowledge with adults and kids on board and have fun! Position can last as long as everyone is happy or until an agreed upon end time prior to, or after, we have transited the Panama Canal. Accommodations are private bow cabin with plenty of closet space and private wet bathroom. While we are willing to teach, serious applicants MUST have experience sailing and standing watches, driving tender and line handling. Priority will be given, and salary commensurate with, demonstrated knowledge in the maintenance/engineering tasks and sailing ability. *We welcome couples to apply, however, the pay is for one full-time position.*
